The book publication "Open-Air Museum Bad Tatzmannsdorf

Since 2019, the open-air museum Bad Tatzmannsdorf was open to the public through the initiative of Ao. Univ. Prof. DI Dr. Erich Lehner and Doz. DI DDr. Hubert Feigelstorfer also in the focus of a scientific project. The concrete task in the context of the seminar of the Vienna University of Technology "Comparative Building History" was a detailed documentation of the structural objects in the Open Air Museum Bad Tatzmannsdorf. The special features of the individual buildings were to be examined and presented in comparison with corresponding regional building types. This required building surveys by surveying and photogrammetry of the objects on site in the open-air museum, studies of spatial and constructive characteristics of the individual buildings by comparison with corresponding still existing building types in the region of southern Burgenland. Literature studies on the function and history of the buildings, as well as the preparation in detailed descriptions, photographs, plans and CAD representations were also necessary. The goal of the seminar was the preparation of a book publication jointly produced by students and experts. This has now been finalized and will be presented to the public at the anniversary kick-off event. Thus, the knowledge about the building types collected in the Open Air Museum Bad Tatzmannsdorf can now be preserved for posterity and used for further comparative studies. Even if in the course of time the exhibited objects should no longer exist due to natural decay.

The pleasure market

Producers and artisans bring taste and craftsmanship to our open-air museum for the first time on May 1. Subsequently, every 1st Sunday of the month a gourmet market will take place.

The museum

In the beginning there was the kitting (an old rural granary) - this is the beginning of the story around the old agricultural buildings, whose walls tell an infinite number of stories. This gives us an idea of how arduous life was dazumal . Hard work was the order of the day. Nevertheless, it is often the simplicity of the old days that fascinates. A walk through the museum reveals how simple and uncomplicated everyday life was.

A look back

1967: It was a functionless agricultural functional building, a kitting in Oberwart which was doomed to demolition. Dr. Alfred Schmeller, the state conservator at the time, arranged for this old building to finally be transferred to a plot of land owned by Kurbad Tatzmannsdorf AG. The Kitting did not remain alone on this property. Soon other buildings from southern Burgenland (Deutsch Schützen, Zuberbach, Rauchwart, etc.) joined them so that the area acquired the character of a small charming southern Burgenland village. Five years later, in the summer of 1972, the museum was officially opened by the then governor Theodor Kery.

Today, the open-air museum Bad Tatzmannsdorf is considered the oldest of its kind in Burgenland and is listed by domestic and foreign tourism Internet portals in the leading position of the sights of Bad Tatzmannsdorf and its surroundings. In the museum complex different traditional building types from the region of southern Burgenland were gathered, such as residential buildings, barns and other larger and smaller utility buildings, which nowadays exist only in a few copies. Thus, on the one hand, their substance was saved from disappearing and, on the other hand, they provide visitors with an overview of rural building in pre-modern times.
